Luis Corvalán, miembro del Comité Central del Partido Comunista y posteriormente secretario general entre 1958 y 1990. Fue detenido y deportado a la isla Dawson, posteriormente trasladado a Ritoque y Tres Alamos sin ser sometido a juicio. En 1976 tras una intensa campaña internacional, Chile y la URSS acordaron liberar a Corvalán y canjearlo por el disidente soviético Vladimir Bukovsky. Se asiló primero en la Unión Soviética y luego en la República Democrática Alemana, RDA, regresando clandestinamente a Chile 1980 para recién en 1988 legalmente poder participar en el proceso de democratización.
