Poco antes del golpe de estado de 1973 en Uruguay, Aurelio González, jefe del archivo fotográfico del diario “El Popular” de Montevideo, escondió más de 45.000 negativos en un falso techo del edificio Lapido, en donde funcionaba el periódico, que fue clausurado definitivamente en noviembre de 1973. 33 años después, estos negativos se localizaron en un garaje.
